Honored at Florida Today Event

Brevard’s community servants deserve
recognition and much gratitude

November 21, 2008 - Florida - Each year, FLORIDA TODAY honors individuals, businesses and organizations that work to make life better on the Space Coast.

This year’s winners of the 17th annual Volunteer Recognition Awards were announced Thursday night during a ceremony that highlighted their good deeds.

The winners — along with all nominees — embody the spirit of giving back to the community and make us glad to live in Brevard County, where so many work tirelessly in service to the less fortunate.

Business of the Year: ASRC Aerospace.

ASRC Aerospace, a NASA contractor at Kennedy Space Center, shows its good corporate citizenship through work with a long list of charities and by encouraging Brevard students interested in science and technology careers.

Its employees participate in outreach activities with the United Way, Hacienda Girls Ranch in Melbourne, Children’s Home Society, March of Dimes, Juvenile Diabetes Society, American Cancer Society and Angel Flight, which transports medical patients for specialized care.

They support Head Start’s work, and provide mentoring and financial sponsorships for two high school FIRST Robotics teams, as well as serving as judges for Brevard schools science fairs.

These groups and individuals represent the highest standards of volunteerism and serve as an inspiration to us all.

They deserve the community’s deep gratitude for their efforts to improve life on the Space Coast.
