Kennedy Space Center (KSC), July 28, 2006 – While the next Shuttle launch is still several weeks away, two ASRC Aerospace employees at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) have already been selected as STS-115 Launch Honorees. Tracy Gibson and Carlos Mata are being recognized for their outstanding work in Space Shuttle processing and launch activities. In particular, Tracy is being recognized for his leadership in providing the Space Shuttle Program with a workable system to mitigate and minimize bird strike possibilities during a launch, while Carlos is being recognized for his numerous innovative measurement systems that have improved both the efficiency and safety of Space Shuttle processing.

The significance of this recognition was well summed up by Richard (Dick) Lyon, VP of Florida Operations. “ASRC is extremely proud of you (Tracy and Carlos) and your valued contributions to the Space Shuttle Program, and we are very pleased that NASA and the STS Program selected to honor you in this manner. James Madewell, President of ASRC Aerospace, expressed his admiration and appreciation as well. “I continue to be overwhelmed and so very proud of the outstanding performance of the USTDC Team. It is equally satisfying to note that the NASA/KSC team understands and appreciates it. Congratulations!” Kennedy Space Center Director Jim Kennedy will officially notify Tracy and Carlos of their achievement sometime this week, and a series of Honoree events will be held prior to the Shuttle launch.

The STS-115 launch window is scheduled to run from August 28th to September 7th during which Space Shuttle Atlantis will take-off on an 11 day mission to the International Space Station.
