NASA organization DEV is responsible for the structural analysis of the Ares 1-X Upper Stage Simulator (USS). This new GESS-2 task requires analysis of several critical post-launch events. This work requires personnel with unique modeling capabilities and experience with launch vehicles. In addition, as the GRC supplied Ares 1-X USS components (“tuna cans”) are scheduled to ship in April 2008, this analysis must be completed in a timely manner. The GESS-2 Team identified several organizations with this critical expertise, and has been able to assure that this analysis will be carried out consistent with project schedules.
